8 ASEAN Countries Pledging to Restore and Strengthen Air Connectivity between Southeast Asia and Other Regions

Singapore: Transport ministers of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam issued a joint communiqué, pledging their commitment to work closely to restore and strengthen air connectivity between Southeast Asia and other regions, conclude the ASEAN-EU. Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement (CATA), facilitate the development of the ASEAN Single Aviation Market under the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services and the ASEAN Air Navigation Service Master Plan, and intensify regional and international cooperation across various domains, including human and institutional capacity development and sustainable consumption and production patterns.

In a press release Dated May, 17, 2022 The transport ministers also agreed to enhance information sharing between States and industry's and develop a common set of public health and safety measures to ensure the highest level of safety in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices.

Minister-in-Charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Cambodia Dr. Mao Havanall Said as countries across the globe continue to relax COVID-19 restrictions, the Changi Aviation Summit ushers in a new chapter of common, cooperative, and sustainable development in the region.

He adds: “Cambodia is grateful for this opportunity to participate in CAS and is committed to collaborating with partners and stakeholders at the global, regional, national, and local levels to facilitate the restart of a safe, secure, and healthy aviation industry”.

The inaugural Changi Aviation Summit (CAS), jointly organized by the Singapore Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), marks an important milestone as one of the first key aviation events held in the region since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 300 global aviation leaders, policymakers, and senior aviation executives from over 45 countries convened in Singapore on Tuesday for a two-day summit held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, from 17 to 18 May 2022.
